Summertime is nice.

June 01, 2003 - 1:17 p.m.

Yesterday, Caleb and I met up with a friend of mine and her daughter to go swimming. Our husbands had gone off to play golf together so we decided to hang out as well. I was a little worried that we weren't going to be able to go because it had been quite windy the night before. Enough to blow our porch swing and patio furniture over. It was pretty windy when I woke up yesterday morning and I thought "Oh no. All hell will break loose if we cannot swim." I had told Caleb the night before that we were going to go swimming the next day and I knew that would be the first thing he asked about when he woke up. Thank goodness the wind did finally die down a bit.

So...continuing with the story: We played at the pool for about an hour, and then our husbands met us at the pool. As they were walking up to the pool area, we saw them from a distance and we both began laughing. The looked like such golfers! Both of them in their polo shirts and khaki shorts. I expected to see a teenage boy walking behind them carrying their clubs! They joined us in the pool and we stayed another few hours. I had to keep re-applying sunscreen to my poor little pasty white kiddo so he didn't get burned. I think we left about 4:30 pm or so.

We had such fun at the pool, that our friends decided to come to our house for a barbecue later that evening. Yummy. There's just something about finishing a hot summer day with a juicy hamburger cooked outside. After eating our dinner, we played Taboo while the children engaged in an activity that was somewhere between fighting and playing. Regardless, they were content and left us alone so we did not complain.

11 pm rolled around and all parties involved had become tired after a hard day of swimming, barbecuing and playing. Our friends left and we all went to bed.

Summertime is nice.
